From the month of January 2007, the Institute of Music of Montepulciano passed under the direction of the Foundation of the Cantiere International of Art of Montepulciano.
Institution by now historic and a reference point for the large southern territorial area of Siena, the Institute of Music of Montepulciano has followed for years the activity of teaching various musical instruments, lyrical, modern and choral singing, solfeggio and propedeutics to the learning of the musical languages.
An activity present during all year round that has also developed further through the formation of stages for students, production of performances and concerts, and courses of specialist training for teachers. At the end of the scholastic year all the teaching classes of the Institute put on a performance-concert at the Poliziano Theatre. And today, with the numbers statistically always on the increase, the Institute counts on in total more than 1,000 students, 35 teachears, a secretary and a teaching and musical director. Under its own director the Institute also has a band, a choral group, an chamber orchestra and numerous ensembles. The latter two have been requested, on commission, to perform in various productions for companies, institutes and banking institutes while the former are often occupied in the collaborations and performances in the area of the national territory and are testimony to the high level of quality that has been reached.
There are numerous collaboration with music schools, cultural associations of the national territory for the production of events tied to the promotion of music in all its forms. The most notable of the activities are some innovative projects regarding the teaching of propedeutics in the middle and nursery schools.
The project “Orchestra Class” was launched in the scholastic year 2007 - 2008, arousing the interest of the press and of those assigned to the sector, consisting of instrumental and string lessons for all the students (33 children) from the first class of the Elementary School in Montepulciano. The principal aim is to form an orchestra of children aged 6-7 years. The Project was created by the necessity to extend and strengthen the educational knowledge and of the musical experience in the obligatory school, with regard musical instruments, in particular strings and vocal. The task of the musical instrument education in the primary school isn’t to forge precocious musicians, but to offer to all the students a way of adequate expression at their age, creating a climate of collaboration and communication exchange. The instruments are supplied free to the children. The choice of the instrument will be left to the children, who can also experiment with different instruments in every lesson.
